September 1944 - April 1945 in Germany

Anne's picture

We are lucky enough to have a first hand account of life in the Ruhr-area, Germany, between September, 1944 and April, 1945, in other words, of the final months of World War II.  My father Jupp Kappius wrote down his observations and experiences as part of his political work.  We will share this account here in several pieces, divided by topic.

Jupp Kappius

His observations, as well as many of his friends' accounts, have been published in a series called "Deutschland im Ersten Nachkiregsjahr" (Germany's First Year After the War"), Volume 10: "Berichte von Mitgliedern des Internationalen Sozialistischen Kampfbundes (ISK) aus dem besetzten Deutschland 1945/46".  Most accounts were written in the German language.
